The Federal Circuit and Family Court of Australia has moved divorce hearings requiring attendance before a Deputy Registrar to Webex video conferencing. The national transition took effect from 31 August 2026, following a successful pilot in selected court registries.
The Court’s online approach is intended to make certain divorce hearings more accessible and convenient. The Webex hearing details are made available through the Commonwealth Courts Portal and the daily court list before the scheduled hearing.
While attending remotely can make the process easier, applicants should still prepare carefully for their hearing and ensure they understand what is required of them.
It is also important to remember that obtaining a divorce does not automatically resolve other family law issues. Parenting arrangements, property settlement and financial matters may need to be dealt with separately.
